Beach House Sign

Beach Hut house sign. This sign was painted by me - Gerry - for a customer who wanted a pictorial of his kids playing in the sand on a beach next to a typical English beach hut with a red fishing boat in the distance - he gave a brief description of the kids in his email, so I painted them close to the description. The spelling of their house name is made up from the first letters of each family member - quite a popular way of making up a house name here in the UK. The number 7 on the beach hut is the number of their home. The result is a very unique personalised house name sign with great sentimental meaning to the customer.

Translation of House Names - help please!

A great resource dictionery we have found useful recently is the Irish-English translation site HERE. We have had many Irish house name signs ordered from the Emerald Isle and to get the correct spellings with the inflections it has been a great resource. If anyone knows of any other translation sites for Welsh or other UK languages we would like to hear from you. Please add the link in the 'comments' section below.
We get asked to make quite a few House Signs with Welsh House Names, Irish House Names, Scottish House Names and even French House Names and the little carrets and inflections above the letters can be difficult to work out for us - which way round they should point and which one to use above certain letters. Any translation dictionery is a useful tool for this.

Cobweb Cottage house sign

Cobweb and spider house name plaque - the customer asked for a friendly cartoon like grinning spider on a cobweb that is touching some of the lettering. The Old English font gives an oldy-worldy feel to the plaque wich was destined for an old thatched cottage.

Rustic House Name Plate with Woodbine or Honeysuckle

Woodbine is another name for Honeysuckle - I thought is was a brand of cigarettes! Painted by Jean Ellams. The customers asked for a large rustic oval house plaque with Old English font and a tangle of Honeysuckle flowers and red berries. Honeysuckle is probably the most difficult and time consuming flower to paint. Nice Job Jean!

Changed House Name spelling

Ammended House Name Sign. Here is the ammended house name that we have changed from CASA CHAMINA to CASA SHAMINA. - you can also view it below with the spelling mistake.The corrected house sign is now in the post on it's way to the customer via Special Delivery. He is going to take it to Portugal for their holiday home.

Cottage House Name Signs with Magnolia Blooms

Cottage Name Sign with Magnolia Blooms. Painted by house Sign Artist Sadie Bass.Thr customer asked for white magnolia blooms-with pink tinge to the base of the petals. We have one of these magnolia trees in our garden and I have taken pictures of the flowers some time ago - just in case. Sadie has done a magnificent painting of the blooms, they look very realistic.

House Number Sign with 5 inch high Numbers. Thought I would show an example of a mottled blue background house sign we make which has large 5 inch high numbers. This design is also offered in Mottled Green and Mottled Burgundy. The numbers are made from a special heat laminated reflective material ( similar to the reflective striping on emergency vehicles) which glows bright at night when any light is shined on the sign.

Thames Barge pictorial House Sign. Painted by artist Rita Grant. The customer asked for a simple pictorial of an old Thames Barge with all its sails in full show. Thames barges have destinctive red/ocre coloured sails and can still be seen sailing along the Thames Estuary today - mostly owned by enthusiast who look after and preserve these wooden boats.

OOPS! A spelling mistake on this house name plaque

House Sign with floral Spray. Painted by Sadie Bass - this house sign had been sent to the customer and he told us that the name has been spelled wrong. The name should have been CASA SHAMINA not CASA CHAMINA. We will correct the sign over the next day or two and show the corrected one here in the diary when it is ready. The spelling mistake must have been made when the order was taken on the telephone.
The beauty of our house signs is that the reflective numbers and text can be refurbished any time in the future as it is heat laminated to the base plaque so any changes to the sign can be made anytime - impossible with dimensional raised or engraved lettering. All our reflective text and numbers are guaranteed in any climate in the world for a minimum of 7 years.

Angel House Plaque

House Name Sign with Arch Angel pictorial. The customer commissioned this plaque for their Christian dedication ceremony of their new home. The angel would be holding a sword, have a rainbow as a halo and should be straddeling a landscape with lots of lightning in the sky. House sign with St. Michaels Mount pictorial. St Michaels Mount is a well known landmark just off the coast at Marazion in Cornwall, England. When the tide is out you can reach the mount via tha causeway, but when the tide is in, you can't walk it - you need to catch a boat. The customer asked for this particular train painted in the centre of the plaque with a gold painted beaded rim for his home which is a converted Railway Station. The font is Century Schoolbook. The house sign was completed in December and was voted 'House Sign of the month' by our sign studio artists, but I forgot to take a photo of it before it was shipped to the customer. Our customer kindly took a picture of the house plaque on the wall and sent it to us via email.
